Your username is part of your essential login security. Your password is only half of the story. Here’s why!

Unless you constantly use random strong passwords you are likely using predictable passwords. Don’t believe me – think of a situation where you use a 6 digit pin. It’s highly likely that that pin is a date, which will be a birthday, anniversary etc of yourself or a love one. Now think you aren’t predictable?

If you are using a predictable password and a hacker knows your username they can then string together all likely passwords based on that username. By trawling your website and social media (which in the days of AI is incredibly easy) they can quickly pull together a whole list of suitable passwords to try. They can then fire them off at your website. And even if these guesses are no way near your actual password, if a hacker is firing 500 attempts at a time (which is possible in the default WordPress configuration) your site is going to slow down, even stop.

And this is just because you became a target through a visible username.
