30 Years of Development: From Blue Chips to the Heart of Small Business
The Journey: 1994 to Now
In the world of web development, “experience” is often measured in months. My journey began in 1994, deep in the world of computer studies and large-scale corporate development. By 2003, after years of “big office life,” I realized that my real passion wasn’t just writing code for multinationals—it was helping real people solve real problems.
I walked away from the corporate ladder to go freelance, and I haven’t looked back since.
Why Small Business?
Recently, my work has been centered around blue-chip multinational corporations. While the scale is impressive, the “human” element is often lost in the layers of management.
This site is my return to my roots.
I believe that a local dance school, a family-run B&B, or an independent solicitor deserves the same level of technical precision as a global brand—but without the global price tag. My goal is to take 30+ years of high-level development experience and apply it to the unique challenges of the small business owner: Getting noticed, staying secure, and building on a budget that makes sense.
A BSc Foundation, A DIY Spirit
With a BSc in Computer Studies, I approach web development as a science. While I’ve spent decades building bespoke systems, I’ve launched this site as a focused experiment in the world of WordPress.
By sharing my experiences—the successes and the frustrations—I aim to demystify the “web developer” curtain for the DIY business owner.
Local Roots & Long Distances
I am based in Southport, UK, and I am a firm believer in the power of a face-to-face conversation. If you’re a local business in the North West, I’m always happy to meet up and discuss how to get your brand online and noticed.
When I’m not at my desk, I’m usually testing my limits elsewhere. I’m an avid marathon runner and long-distance cyclist. Much like a complex development project, endurance sports require pacing, persistence, and a clear vision of the finish line.
Why Work With Me?
- Decades of Experience: I’ve seen the web evolve from the ground up since the early 90s.
- Corporate Tech, Small Business Heart: You get “Blue Chip” expertise tailored for a small business budget.
- Authenticity: This isn’t an agency with a sales team. It’s a direct conversation with the developer who is actually writing your code.
